the new remotes now have a programming button on the back... this can also be used to select vehicle A or Vehicle B if the remote is learned to more than one vehicle.....

yeah, if it's the blue viper remote with lcd, on the back, there is a P button, that's for programming....it screwed me up a few times....i accidently hit it with something in my pocket and it changed vehicle on me....keep an eye out for that...if it goes to vehicle 2, 3 or 4, hit it once.....

the owners manual should cover some of what it does (backlight on/off, vibrate on/off, sound on/off)

I'm not sure if they're necessarily compatible, although from the specs, they should be...the only difference between the 791xv and 5000 is that the 791xv has remote start and a couple of other related features, and the remote doesn't have a panic button, it has a start/turbo start button, which is a star....the 5000 has the panic button in it's place.....also, the 791xv has the vehicle shown in a vertical format on the lcd, the 5000 is horizontal.....  The dealer couldn't get a 791xv remote to work with my 5000, so they were gonna swap the brain out...too bad they gave up or i'd have a better alarm...LOL.....not sure if it wouldn't work because they're idiots..or because it just simply can't...
