I was wondering if anyone has installed a starter in 2002 Grand Am. I dont think I will run into any trouble, but i dont have a very large time window to do this install and I am just checking if anyone knows of any speed bumps in the removal of the radio. I have run into hidden screws before and I am just trying to save time. ANy other knowledge that woul dbe helpful in speeding up this install woul dbe great. I have this install, Two 2002 Ford Taurus installs and a 99 Cavalier all on Saturday, so I am going to be fed up with Anti-Theft devices by Sunday morning.

Lock requires a negative trigger, and unlock requires a negative trigger through a 1,500 ohm resistor. Must use relays. Must close doors to lock with a single pulse for the 2002 Grand Am's. Radio removal is not recommended.....remove the radio, without unplugging it, to access the ignition harness.

The Ford is basic install as long as it's not an alarm system as well. Then you will have problems with the GEM bypass and also door trigger is a pain to do.

The Cavalier has locks that are 5wi (type C) for the non-keyless versions and they are mastered from the passenger side switch. Keyless cars, locks are positive trigger (type A) from the driver's kick panel.

Is unplugging the radio not recommended in case there is theftlock, or some other reason?

I'm not 100 % sure but the key fob transmitter programming is held in memory in the radio so unplugging it would mean re-programming the remote controls

Really, that sounds crazy, I hope it doesn't get in the way. It wouldn't be the end of the world if they had to reprogram their factory remot, since they probably wont use it any more anyway.

No Problemo. Here is a list of possible functions that you may have to reset if the radio is unplugged. Remember , I said POSSIBLE , not for certain.....

Displays current settings
Oil life monitor reset
Tire inflation monitor reset
Delayed headlamp illumination
Automatic door lock and unlock
Remote visual/audible verification of remote lock/unlock
Enable/Disable content theft
Enable/Disable trunk lock shock sensor
Short or long horn with remote lock/unlock
Key fob transmitter programming

I have a 2002 GA GT and completely removed the Radio without a relocation kit. The only thing you loose is your door chimes since they play through your stereo speakers. When you plug the radio back in, the chimes work again.
