ok so i have a 93 ford explorer and i taped into the door trigger wire (BLACK/ Light Blue in kick) and it gives me a - reading when the doors are closed and dead when they are open is this odd?

it can depending on what type of trigger the door has. it may be pos. or neg.

Your truck uses the BLACK/ light blue as it's doorpin wire. It is a positive trigger, not a negative. Most alarms and such have provisions for both positive and negative door trigger inputs.
