Ok here is my dilema,

I have a 200 dodge Ram 1500 quad cab, Non- power anything model, it was broken into a few weeks ago and I decided to install an Alarm w remote start (Pyle pwd501) , and I figured why not make it even harder and go with the shaved door handle kit and what the hell I sprung for power locks as well (cant be too safe). well I got the power locks and actuators installed and I am ready to wire it all up, but did not recieve much in the way of detailed information on how to interface the systems.

I find for the most part the wiring diagrams in the database are pretty good but I still have not seen what I am tryin to do laid out yet. anyway the lock(mechanisms)  I got are "autoloc" 2-wire units (and the only info I find is for 3 4 and 5 wire models) and the Actuators for the doors have only one wire from them (assuming it is a possitive wire as the chassis is grounded to the inner door) and I need to hook all this up to work so that I can hit 1 button to unlock the door and another to Pop it open.  or possibly to hit it once to unlock and hold or hit it 2 times to open .

I also have the dilema of not knowing if the options I am trying to use are supposed to be (1) normal Closed or (2) normal open (like for the starter dissable it gives the options (blue white wire - starter defeat input to ignition wire : or blue red - normally open starter defeat input wire to ignition wire) which do I have? ) same for the door locks, they only have 2 wires and I don't know if they need + and - or ++ or -- . Also I must admit I am stuck as to where to use the diodes that were sent with the actuator kit and the relays, do I need these or can I use the built in relays in the alarm to trigger instead?

I am also hoping to be able to make the doors work seperatley or I will have to walk around and close the passenger door every time I hit the button (or use the button inside to open manually, but that would be a drag.)

Is there anyway you could help with some advice on how I might make this happen?  does it make sense to have locs with shaved handles? I thought this would be a good way to ensure the dors don't open while driving incase I cannot make the output dead when the car is rolling or in gear

(I am considering taking out the inside handles as well as the ouside ones, and making it all push button. but not sure if it is legal.)  I have considered some semi concealable ideas as well such as rip cord type straps that can be made to look like a part of the design of the door, but then can be pulled out as an emergency door handle.

if you want to make the doors work seperately you will need a 2nd unlock output on the alarm  im not sure if pyle has it or not

Why would you need to have door locks if your shaving the door handles ? Without handles, there's no need for a locked door. Most of my  customer's that have shaved door handles removed the lock tumbler completely from the door.

well I don't need the trunk open button (as the truck does not have one) so I could use it for one output and the unit says it has 7 Built-in Relays for Start,Ignition 1,Ignition 2, Accessory,Flashing Parking Lights,and Door Locks , so I was hoping I could use one of these for the second door output, here is a list of the options on the unit itself:

  • - And I Need the locks to make sure the doors dont open while running (at least that was my thought) or I need to make sure there is no output to the actuators while the car is in gear (wasn't sure if the alarm did this) at any rate they were cheap and if I dont need them no big loss, I dont mind removing the lock tumblers, but I want to know the doors will stay shut (dont want the kids to fall out)

    and does anyone know if removing the internal door handles is legal? I want to hide the buttons under the door panel to simply press in the right spot and the door opens(of course while not in gear)

    not really you could mount a live jumping point under the car.
     
    so in a extreme case where there is no power you get under clamp the live and earth on the chasis.
     
    press the button and your in..

    If the battery died, what use would the locks be ? I always hook up a back up battery with a hidden switch for this type of scenario for the customer. Back up batteries are cheap and hooking up a switch to this and the solenoid would be easy as well seeing that you inthere already.

    I plan on putting an emergency (rip-cord) pull for the door latch that will be accessible from under the vehicle.  I am also looking for a good backup battery solution, but will have mechanical backup as last resort.

    well, I have got the alarm in and all is hooked up ok, I found that I could not use the remaining channels on the remote to control the last functions (seperate the door actuators) so I spent $13 (incl. shipping) for aan Avital keyless entry system, and have the doors running off of it.  by using the Avital system I actually gained some channels which will be used later. but for now I can use the Remote for the PYLE (alarm) to lock/unlock , remote start, etc... and it will pop the drivers door for me. and the Avital system can be used to open the drivers door and the passenger doors seperately, (as well as having a few extra channels available for future expansion, just give me time I will think of something.) I know it seems like alot of remotes or something but like I said the driver door works from the alarms remote as well as the avitals remote, so when I am alone I only need 1 remote for what I am doing, but if I have friends then either I can carry or my friends ( who think its really cool to have control ) can carry the extra remote.

    and as for the locks with the shaved handles, I have only one thing to say, "You can NEVER be TOO Safe!". and yes it does work that when the locks are locked the door popper cannot open the door, this makes me feel better when I have friends and family in the truck.  I suppose I could kill the relay when the truck is in gear (although I believe I asked that someone help me figure this out, and got no response.) but htis way seems to work ok and gives me the ability to stop at a store and let someone in or out of the truck without havinig to stop and get out of gear so the power returns to the relay. (much better)  and I have yet to remove the inside handles as I am still unclear as the the laws in my State, and also the ramifications of electronic exit buttons in an accident situation. (looking into seperate battery power / backup)

    I do know that most first responders really don't like seeing shaved handles on vehicles, makes it a bit harder for someone to pull you out of the vehicle in the event something does happen. Say you get hit on the driver's side..... it destroys the battery..... you are knocked unconscious. You have no exterior door handles. So, paramedic takes out the window, reaching in only to find NO INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. Sooooooo...... as you lay possibly in severe trauma, and the person trying to save your life can't get to you...... you can't tell him/her where the fancy little trick manual emergency release is....

    See where I'm going with this????

    Leave the interior door handles where they are... they are there for a reason.....

    If this is a strictly show truck that is a trailer queen, go for it. But how would you feel if someone was trying to enter your vehicle to possibly save you and couldn't (or perhaps one of your kids)....... Face it.... you have insurance for a reason. Thieves will take whatever they want... alarm or not. If they want it bad enough, they will get it, regardless of any measures you take.

    Sorry for the rant, but not many people tend to think too far beyond the "cool" factor when doing mods like this.

    I will agree with Gus on the safety issues on this, but don't go overboard on worrying about the laws and such inside your car.  Unless you are getting pulled over often and the police are checking your car, no one will ever know what you have done.

    I know that you need to be safe with your installs, but don't spend TOO much time with all of the "what-ifs", you can find a problem with everything if you think about it long enough.

    I think shaved door handles are neat, and if that's what you're going for, then great, but I wouldn't personally remove the interior door handles.  This seems like an impractical trade for not much more neatness.
