'84 Buick LaSabre

It has a light in the trunk (gnd by trunk lid).
One wire leading to bulb.
Tapped wire leading to bulb - reads +12v
The problem is that it reads +12 all the time even with the trunk closed and the light off.

Any ideas?
I really do not want to run a pin-switch but at this rate I think I'll have to.

There should be another wire that leads to the light casing. Tap into this wire because it is the trigger wire .

the light itself might have a sealed mecury type switch that you cannot tap into.

hello...new here...but the problem you are encountering is a reed-like piece of metal that makes ground when the trunk lid is opened.  the wire will read 12VDC on your meter/test light because you are completing the circuit.  is the light housing attached to the chasis of the car?  is there a plug that goes into it? try giving that bulb a separate ground and see if it turns off when the door is closed.  might be the only option left to run a pin switch.  you could try a micro switch from radioshack and place it where the weather-strip meets the lid. if you want to get fancy, (might not be cost efficient for mass production) but you could also go with a magnetic reed switch.
