Subject: failed emissions?

I live in connecticut. I do many of installs and this has to be the first that I heard of. A 2000 blazer that I put a remote start in went for emissions. The guy at the station said the vehicle had failed to communicate through the OBD port. The guy told her and insisted it was because of the remote starter. Can someone please tell me how a remote start could possible affect the OBD port. Any comments would help

Dumb machanics always say that. "oh, yer car is running hot, it has to be from that alarm system you just had installed." Truth is, they have no idea why the ODB port isnt working, so they just blamed it on the remote start. You tell that customer to tell that mechanic to get some physical proof.

Did you by chance use a data bus interface?

Not at all. I used a bypass for the GM passlock but that is about it!

Emissions tests are stupid. They can never say what the reason is for failing. It wouldn't be an alarm

If you didn't use a data bus interface, then I can see no way the alarm could do anything to the OBD port. Have her take it to the dealer for inspection.
