How do I hook up a relay to bypass clutch so remote start will start car? I was told to find wire that washot when clutch was out and would go off when clutch wasdepressed to start car. I found the wire, but was told the wrong hook up.

Is it a TDI or a gasser (1.8T or 2.0)? There are two switches on the clutch assembly. I believe you need the upper one. If there is a brown wire on one pin, the other pin needs to see ground during crank. (TDI) If it needs 12V, then generally, one of the wires will be the same color as the start wire at the key.
You could just use a multimeter to figure it out. Only one of the switches is for the actual starter circuit... the other is for the cruise control circuit.

1999 VW Beetle, 2.0, it has two wires running to a plug
on the clutch. On wire stays hot and the other is hot
untill you mash in the clutch.

Okay... you can do this in 2 ways. Wire a relay so that during crank only, it connects the 2 wires together. To do this, wire as follows:
85- +ve start
86- -ve ground when running
30- one wire of switch
87- the other wire of switch.
Or, you could put 12 volts on the other wire during crank:
85- +ve start
86- -ve ground when running
30- +12V
87- starter relay side of clutch switch

Thank the Lord, it's over! All I had to do was run the
alarm neg output wire to the RED / gray wire feeding the
clutch switch. It works great!!
