Has anyone done a r/s in a touareg yet. I looked at one briefly, and it appears that I have to get power under the seat, and I may have to bust some MacGuyver moves on the ignition switch to make it work. any ideas?

You're gonna be busting more than a McGyver move on the ignition switch. I think Fortin has a bypass for the key switch, not to sure. As far as locks and what not, hopefully some of the new CAN Bus modules work on the new VW/Audi products........

They also have the CAN SL Bypasskit which does

Alarm Arm/Rearm
Alarm Disarm
Door Lock
Door Trigger Ouptut
Door Unlock
Gas Cap Release
Hatch/Trunk Release
Heated Mirrors
Heated Seats
Hood Pin Output
Panic Mode
Parklights
Rap Disable
Rear Defrost
Sliding Door - Driver Side
Sliding Door - Passenger Side
Tachometer Output
Trunk Pin Output

and works with Audi, Volks (including Touareg), and Volvo. It should be released sometime next week, so there's need to be nervous.

probably like $86548654854 I worked on one to attempt a cell phone install and since our shop RARELY touches anything high end. or even ANYTHING VW/ AUDI/ VOLVO/ BMW pretty much just jetta head units?... they were gonna give me a few hours the kid with like 3 years experience and this thing has twisted data wiring all under the dash... I'm sure I could have made something work but the thing could probably carry 5 people off a cliff and land on its roof and everyone would walk away unharmed from all the airbags... it just made me a lil bit nervous for a 2 hour block in the schedule book... maybe i'm slow? but we were only charging her $80!!!! SHE OWN'S 5 BURGER KINGS! SHE GAVE HER DAUGHTER ONE!! SHE BOUGHT A $60,000 TOUREG!!! I think she could pay a bit more?... The VW garage wouldn't even touch the cell phone installation!! If that tells you anything?

I do trackers in these cars quite a bit (Lo-jack) so i know that they can be a bit of a disaster area.

I was actually asking about the price for the can bus units. We dont get stuff like that over here. We tend to do things the hard way. :)

Best of luck doing it the old fashioned way. By 2008 the law will require all vehicles sold in North America and in the UK to use CAN BUS.

I'm not sure about exact pricing, but they should run about $30-$40. Check with their distributors.
