hey guys,i'm trying to get my dad crazy by "making some changes"in his vehicle(which he cares about very much and hate making changes in it).
i was thinking doing it by making the doors lock on him when he turns the ignition on and open when he turns it off.
now here is the deal:i have two wires one GREEN/ red for lock and one WHITE/ red for unlock.
both of them are activated by a neg pulse(no resistors needed)now the first part is to make a relay that turns the ignitions + to - but the problem begins here:i need an electricity genuis(and there is lots of them in this great site)to help me think of a circuit as follows:
ignition on-->neg PULSE to GREEN/ red wire.
ignition off-->neg PULSE to WHITE/ red wire.
please help me create this circuit cause the "what da f***?"face of my dad after i'll to this worth it all...
thanks rami.
by the way,of course i'll deny any connection to this "problem" what will make him just mad...

I will go ahead and be the first to say don't **** with your parent's cars. You can cause damage if you don't do it correctly.

A better trick is to tie his brakes to the horn or turn signals to the horn.

i agree with auex on that one....messing with parents vehicle oculd make life hard on you after, expecially if you connect something wrong and fry the ignition system, you never mentiond what kind of vehicle it was, but judging from the way your describing it, it's either a nicely restored vehicle or a fairly new one with all kinds of nice electronic things in it. i've been doing remotestarts for sometime and i know how little it takes to mess up a computer and cause major money loss for a little prank.

and as for the horn thing auex....i know what i'm doing april fools day on my g/f's car now :)  thanks man lol

stang351w,as i said it's a lantis(protege)in the u.s
and i dont see how locking and unlocking the doors will fry the ignithion...

i didn't mean  just locking or unlocking the doors would, what i meant is where you sugested useing a relay to switch the + from the ignition into a - pulse for the locks. you've gotta tap into the ignition wires if you take that route and that's where the potential for ignition damage could happen. i'm not sure excatly what relay setup would be needed all i know is it wouldn't be easy, switching a (+) to a (-) isn't so bad..but you need a neg pulse after you get it to a negative. alot of wires, a number of relays, increased change of damage.  that's all i was getting at

https://www.pac-audio.com/instructions/tr7bonus.pdf

feature 19 is what you want, its a programable relay, with a ton of different functions.

feature 19, lets you program it to send a negative pulse (lock the doors) when the ignition is applied, and when it doesnt see the ignition signal, a neg pulse(unlock) will be sent. :) easy as that

I like to tie the "Mist" feature of the wipers to the horn. It's seldom used, and it can be the gift that keeps giving.... especially if you do it during a dry spell when you know it isn't going to rain for a couple weeks.....

Or, perhaps the "down" wire for the passenger's side power mirror........

I usually go for momentary, seldom used switches when doing little things like this. Makes for more of a surprise factor.

Why don't you get yourself a keyless entry unit? $50 at most. No thinking involve and your brain will still be intact when you are done with the installation. 5 wire at most in the installation. Ground, +12V constant, +12 ignition, lock and unlock. The only thing you need to do after the installation is to program the unit to do the feature that you were trying to accomplish in the first place. What's more exciting about this is that your old man will have keyless enty as a bonus.   Audiovox is one of the brand that has this feature, but there are many other brands out there that will allow you to accomplish what you are trying to do as well.
