hello all this is my first post. I have never installed an alarm/remote starter before. keep in mind that im no stranger to car electronics and feel confident that I can do it, I just have some basic questions. Im looking at buying a 2wss-as. I have a 2000 chevy blazer. I have looked in the downloads section and found several install sheets for compustar. my first question is - which brain module does this unit have? second question - do I need a bypass module for my passlock 2 system?

Any other tips or tricks you may have for me before i purchase this will be appreciated. I am asking all this because I want to install it right the first time and want it to go as smoothly as possible.

Thanks to all in advance

Get plenty of liquid! Nothing will go smoothly the first time.

Why does it matter if you purchase the unit at a reputable shop? You should get what you pay for. Installaion and user guide are both in the box.

"second question - do I need a bypass module for my passlock 2 system?"

Yes, Passlock II

Again, get plenty of fluid, read, read, and read and read, then ask questions if you get stuck.

Notes:
NOTE: This vehicle has the passlock II immobilizer system that, when adding a remote start, must be interfaced with. Use DEI part 555t or 555L. *1 The BCM is located to the right of the accelerator pedal below the radio. The plugs on the BCM face towards the drivers side.   *2 Use tan for the drivers door located in pin B4 of the purple plug, orange for the passenger door located in pin B2 of the purple plug, and dk. blue/white for the rear doors and rear hatch located in pin B11 of the lt. blue plug, must diode isolate these wires. *3 The PCM is located on the passenger fender. On the 2.2L the wire is in a black 80 pin plug pin 10, and on the 4.3L the wire is in a red 32 pin plug pin 20. *4 This wire will not test when using the headlight switch. This wire is triggered by the DRL system. To meter the wire, start the car with the parking brake set, when the brake is released this wire will go to ground. *5 Also found in the brown plug at the BCM on vehicles with a factory alarm.

I believe the alarm/start unit is the 3000. Compustar has only 3 "brains", Alarm/starter, Starter, and Alarm. The only difference between the units are the ant. and remotes. As for the Passlock 2 use a 555L or the new 556L, or another quality brand bypass.

tho a die hard DEI dealer i would recommend the GMBP for this vehicle... WAYYYY easier and you dont have to cut or interrupt the Passlock wires

I wish they wouldn't have discontinued that piece.  It has been replaced by the PLXR!  No cutting wires on the plxr either though.
