Hi,

I'm having trouble getting my starter kill to work. I'm not sure what to connect to the "85" thing on the relay.

Right now I have the orange (neg armed output) into the 86, the cut starter wire in the 87a and 30.

I thought I was supposed to put the +12v for relays into the 85, but when I do that, the starter kill is disable when the alarm is arm (when it should be the other way around).

Any help would be greatly appreciated (the sooner the better). Thanks!

sirs1oth,

Tap the "85" wire into your ignition wire coming off of the ignition switch. Check it with a multimeter--it should read 12 volts in both the run and crank positions. This way, if someone tries to start your car with the key when the alarm is armed it will get ground from the orange wire, and power from trying to start. By using 87a and 30, which is a normally closed contact, when someone tries to start the car it will open, or break, the starter circuit and not allow the starter to get current.

If you hooked up "85" to a constant current you would hold the relay open constantly while the alarm is armed which puts unnecessary drain on your battery and wear on the relay.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried almost everything, which leaves me to believe that there is something either wrong with the alarm itself, or the documentation.

When hooking up the 85 into the ignition wire (which was the 2nd thing i tried), the car won't start when the alarm is DISARMED. However, if the alarm is ARMED, the engine will start. Am I doing something wrong here?

86 - Orange wire "Neg Armed Output" from alarm
85 - Ignition switch
87a - start side of starter wire
30 - key side of starter wire

Just an thought...if the orange wire is set to be negative when the alarm is armed, what is it when the alarm is disarmed? Shouldn't that wire be Neg Disarmed Output and be negative when the alarm is off?

Be sure you use a SPDT ( Single Pole Double Throw ) Relay

SPDT Relay
1 or 2 amp Diode across PIN 86 & PIN 85 with stripe facing PIN 86

Cut Starter wire in half:
You now have 2 Halves:
Starter Side & Ignition Switch Side

PIN 86 & 30  = Ignition switch half of cut wire
PIN 87a  = Starter side of cut wire
PIN 85 = Negative Output from Alarm while Armed

Mo12v is exactly right.

Make sure you have the right relay (5 terminals, not 4) and hook up the starter wires to 87a and 30. If you have the wrong relay or hook it up to 87 instead of 87a (there's a big difference) it will start when you arm and won't start when you disarm.

The orange wire should be negative when armed and simply dead, neither positive or negative when disarmed.

The PINS are not the difference..............Internally is the key
You can get a 5 PIN Relay & it can be a SPST Single PoleSingle Throw ) Relay
Make sure it is SPDT
