Subject: Valet 561R dead?

I put in a valet 561R in a 2005 Dodge Ram. I didn't hook up the door locks, because customer is going to use original remote. When i hit lock/unlock on the remote, the brain clicks, as to send the pulse. When i hit remote start on the remote, (hit the button twice), the brain makes no noise, nothing happens, i even tried hitting the button once, twice, three, four times, nothing. All the wiring is correct to the ignition harness, I know there is power to the brain, i checked that. Here is how I have everything hooked up. Factory arm, and disarm are not hooked up. Yellow (ignition out)not hooked up. WHITE/ Blue (-)activion input is grounded. Wait to start not hooked up. WHITE/ red (+) activation input not hooked up. Black is grounded. White is going to headlights.
BLACK/ white (-)neutral safety switch is grounded. violet/white is going to tach. brown is at brake. That's it. Any suggestions, ideas? Thanks

the only wires you need on that plug are the black - ground and the white - parking lights

Yes, i used the 555. Even if that was wrong, the brain would still try to function right?

555 what??  you would likely need a 556C    555C was pre-2004

assuming you learned tach properly and the LED came on solid...you may have a bum unit... default is 2 distinct presses on the snowflake button to start....if the park lights flash when you press the lock/unlock then that tells you that the antenna is ok and it is receiving signal.....

when you say BLACK/ white is grounded... did you hook it up properly to the supplied toggle switch?... i think ground is the valet shutdown.... use the toggle switch... or unground the wire and try it....  also, you may want to temporarily disconnect your hood pin wire (grey) to see if the switch possibly isnt adjusted right...

kgerry,
Thanks a lot for you help. One last thing. When I program the remote, I hit the remote start button once on the remote, and the brain accepts, by clicking. Now does this make it default, to where you have to hit the button twice for remote start, or do i only hit it once now?

you shouldnt have to program the remote at all... they come preprogrammed... leave it alone or you'll cause yourself nothing but grief....

Well, that's the problem, when this issue first started, I ask someone, and they said, reprogram the remote

The BLACK/ white neutral safety wire must see a ground for the remote start to operate; the supplied switch is closed in the "On" position and open in the "Off"

Also, when you are programming that unit there is an LED on the side of the brain itself that should provide you with confirmations of programming options rather than listening for clicks from the unit.

Did you hook up the gray hoodpin wire?

Did you ever program the tach I believe the unit will not try to start until its learned the tach. If thats not it make sure your brown brake wire does not have power onit and the gray hood pin wire is not grounded.
