I am a little confused.1995-97 Chevrolet C/K Pickup Alarm Information

On the wiring diagram it says something about unlocking locking that confuses me. The lock says something about keyless entry. The unlock section says without keyless entry. SO which is it? (My 96 does not have keyless. I know I am looking at it wrong. Can you clarify?

5 wire (type C) on the two door models, and positive trigger (type A) on the four door and keyless entry models.

If your truck has no keyless entry and is a 2 door truck, you will need to grab the wires at the driver's door boot and make your connections there. To ensure that you have a 5 wire system, find the WHITE or BLUE wire at the door boot wires and cut one of them in half ( don't worry cause your going to have to cut it anyways if this is a type C system ). When you do this try and toggle your lock and unlock switch, if BOTH functions cease to operate, then you have a 5 wire system.

If only one stops working and the other continues, then you have a Type A system. Both systems you will need to wire in realys. Here is the Type C ( 5 wire ) relay configuration:

Woulndt al of the trucks be one or the other, not both? This truck is a 96 chevy Silvarado king cab 4x4.

So will my remote start unlok bothe doors at the same time even if it is the different system?

DO Compustar remote starts come with the relays or do you need to buy them. SO If I understand correctly one relay for locking and one relay for unlocking on the 5 wire system which I probably have because I have a 2 door no keyless entry?

The truck will be one or the other for door lock types. I never trust anything as far as wiring schematics tell me and I ALWAYS check to ensure proper wiring incase one or all the wiring programs that I have is wrong.

Compustar systems require additinal relays for the 5 wire systems. Almost 80 + % of all manufacturer's require external relays for this type of door lock system. You will require two relays for the truck and yes you are correct in your last post.

What are the best relays to get and what type are they? Can I go down to my local electrical contractor and get them?

Putting in a starter for a 96 chevy full size truck. What is this wire used for and where do I need to connect it?

(It is an orange wire that says it is an accessary wire to the heater negative?) Do I need this?

What is the tach wire used for in a remote starter and does a 96 chevy need one or can it go tachless?

If you're talking about a truck, it's white in a white plug at the ecm on the driver's side inner fender well.

Yes shyman, you will need to hook up the tach input wire of your remote starter to a clean tach signal in your pickup. The remote starter senses the engine starting by ignition tach signal, this prevents your remote starter from overcranking the engine.

It is a full size truck. Can I make the connection at the coil? Where is the best place for the connection? SOmeone told me to just use tachless mode but not sure if that is the best thing.

As you know I have a remote start coming:

What do you think of this....
I am thinking of putting all the relays togther in one location. Like maybe mounted inside the driver's kick panel. (Are those relays mountable?) Running wire from the ignition harness (and whatever other harness needs acessed) {Soldered of course} to the fuse panel where I have room to mount inside the fuse door panel mountable fuse holders. (The fuse panel is against the driver's side door). This way the fuses are acessable just like the regular fuses.
From the fuse holder a wire will go to the relays, then of course from the relays to the accessary such as the power door locks. Is this a good mounting configuration?
Also, do you know what I will need in terms of connectors (are spade connectors what connects the wires to the relay?) wire, wire size, etc.
Thanks for your help!

Where is the best place to mount relays for a remote starter? Is the kick panel ok?

i havent had any problems with hood pin switches but have seen some old cars with the pins corroded to shhh.
the best option is the reed switch

I went to Radio Shack and the only ones I could find online were for a security system. (Magnet switches) Is that what you were talking about?

I bought a remote starter. I have a relay for the anti grind but was wondering wheather to install it. It is a starter and key unlocker only.

What I am wondering if several years from now if the brain or relay fails, will I still be able to start my truck or will I be stranded. I bought this for the starter mainly, not the antigrind/starter interupt.

This is an Astra 1000

If you hook it up like it shows you in the manual you won't have any problems. It's your choice, you don't have to hook it up at all if you don't want to just be carefull not to turn the key all the way to the start position when remote started or you'll grind the starter.

I want to. Just cutting that starter wire in half scares me a little. So it would still work even if the brain and/or relay fail?

DO the magnetic switches need ot be normally open or normally closed.
