What's the deal with DEI remote starts having problems with ford tach signals?  In the past two weeks I've had two escorts, a contour, and a taurus come in all with the same problem.  The car will run for two or three minutes and then shut down.  Diagnostics tell me that there was an over-rev shutdown.  I always grab the tach signal at the ECM or an ignition coil, never at an injector.  I've had to change all of them to voltage sense.  Just wanted to see if anyone else has run into the same problem.

there is two settings for tach on dei rs systems it is located on the side and you pull the pin out and locate it in the other position. i have seen that work on alot of fords and the other thing is true about the coldest the car can be to learn the tach.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

With dei and ford use the injector we started doing it that way last year and have not had one problem on the fords since.

YEah you'll get that a lot with dei and fords....  Best way is to pick tach up at an injector.  On a side note a lot of chrysler vehicles you can't pick tach up at an injector.  IF you do the car will crank for half a second then shut down.  Attempt to start the second time and may continue to run.

i picked up tach at an injector on an 02 ZX2 with same problems. relearned tach when it was cold same thing (lasted about ten minutes then before shutting down). just switched to voltage.

I have issues with new Toyotas and Avox alarms too. They rev up close to 2000rpms and shut back down. All we do is relearn tach at a higher rpm...

I'll try grabbing the tach signal at an injector on the next ford that I do and see what happens.  I did the taurus a couple days ago when it was 20 something degress outside and the car had been sitting for about 2-3 hours when I learned tach, so I can't imagine having much better conditions than that.  But I don't know, it just doesn't makes sense to me why it would shut down b/c of an over-rev when the car was just sitting there idleing at 900rpm???  How do the tach processors in these units measure the tach signal?  Do they just monitor the AC voltage on the wire that you tap into or is it more complicated than that?
