Im having a problem with the remote start. the start wire, acc, ign 2 all rest at ground and when the remote start turns on, the signals from the remote start module are grounded out. if i insert the key the wires all have 12v at the appropriate times. I'm using a 2 relay setup from https://12voltinstallations.8m.com/photo.html to bypass the passlock system could this be related to my bypass? Has anyone used this diagram with success? should i really take the higher of the two resitance values or is an average better? if you have come across this situation please help!

Yep. You're not getting around the passlock security system. The correct reading to use is normally the AVERAGE of the 2 resistance values.

Just out of curiosity, why are you building your own bypass instead of using some type of universal security bypass (such as a JBS Bulldog 791
or DEI 555L or Commando Pass-Mod, etc.) ???
They will make you life much easier, and on the '98 Cavalier, it's not a transponder type of bypass so you don't even have to use up your spare key.

Im not using a bypasser because i can get the relays for free. i was thinking there might be something with the crank low/bulb check or another input im missing my remote starter has a pulse ground output during crank would i be better off using this output on the bulb check wire?

just my opinion, even though you get relays for free and a 555l may cost around $35...  how much do you think you are worth an hour? save the time  With the proper module a cavalier can been done is less then an hour, always seems withthe relay thing it takes a whole lot longer.   like i said just my opinion
