I just installed a Compustar 2WSS-AS in my car, and I installed the antenna where recommended (driver's side top of the windshield).

The communication between the two seems hit or miss, sometimes it is excellent and every time I hit a button, I get a response. The car is on the other side of a large building and it is arming/disarming fine right now. It actually seems to work better here than right next to the car. There is still a 2 second delay in responses, but it works.

But most of the time, I have to hit a button more than once to get it to respond, sometimes 10 times in a row. I was standing right next to the car, and I could not get it to disarm for 20 seconds. Is there something wrong with my unit?

Just a thought, but have you mounted it behind the black border or heavy shaded area of the windshield? I've had trouble with this before. To make the shaded area of a windshield they add some metalic particles which effect the signal.

It is in the tinted area of the windshield, almost at the black. If I move it down, it will be in my line of sight. Is there another suitable place I can put it, like behind the rearview in the center or on the bottom?

I always place mine behind the rear view mirror below the tinted area. The range may also be dimished if the antenna wire is cracked or if the antenna is damaged. Compustar's have a lifetime warranty so if you have any problems with the range bring it back to the shop that installed it for you and ask then to replace the antenna for you through warranty.

I'm having the exact issue. You can be right next with similar results. I've had issues also with the car arming but the door lock symbol still says the doors are unlocked. But the alarm is actually armed and the doors did indeed lock.

Take the remote off of your key ring, I had a customer have a problem with range as well. When he removed the remote from his key ring (far away from any metal object) he noticed a big difference in operation.

anybody have problems with their remote start on this alarm?  Mine only works everyonce and a while, the other times, it winds the starter up really high and click alot, but once the car starts it still winds up the starter, then the car dies and it restarts the whole process again... but idk how to fix this problem, is anyone else expierencing this?

It sounds as if there is a problem with the tachometer connection to the vehicle. Check to make sure the connection is still good, if it is not, remake the connection and reprogram the system to the proper tach level.

Good Luck

Keep us posted.
