Greetings all-
I’ve got a 04 Chevrolet Silverado in which a Viper 550ESP was installed approx 2 years ago.
About a week ago, my battery died and since I have a problem with the remote start: Tapping
the brake doesn’t turn the function off. Here’s a quick rundown.
Tap of the brake after a remote start with NO key, engine continues to run.
Tap of the brake after remote start WITH key, engine continues to run, alarm does NOT disarm.
What DOES work:
Pop of the hood, engine shuts down
A quick rev of the engine and max tach limit kicks in and the engine shuts down.
I have pulled power of the main unit for several minutes (unplugged main harness) in hopes for a
reset, but still no shutdown. I put a meter on the brown input wire of the secondary remote
start harness (on the actual harness pin) and a tap to brake gives me a good 12volts, which I
would assume should trigger the shutdown.
Any ideas as to what I’m overlooking or advice?
One last thing, not important to me, but when reading the manual it mentions that a tap of the
brake when the alarm is armed should trigger zone 1, which doesn’t seem to work either.
I would guess directly related?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
you say that the brown (brake wire) recieves 12volt when you metered it and it doesnt shut down?
try remote starting it, take the brown wire to a 12volt sources to see if it turns off.
if not, check the wire up to the harness (could be loose)
or the brain has gone bad (never happened to me but it might to you)

Thanks for the response. 12Volt directly to the brown wire (even used a pin to get it inside the harness)
didn’t seem to do the trick either. At this point I’ll just have to assume there is a problem with the unit itself
and wouldn’t you know the installing dealer is out of business and those around here want a premium to even crack it open and
troubleshoot it since “they” didn’t install it. Anyone know of a way to get DEI to replace it without being
an authorized dealer/installer if no other solution comes about?
try looking for a brain off ebay. look for a different brain by DEI (like sidewinder automate avital python)
it will work too

what kind of connection does your brake wire have? butt connector, solder, or T-tap. test the brake on the other side of the connection.
forget my last reply it almost sounds like the programming has been reset. you might have to program again. if not buy a new one. or take it in for repairs.
if you do not want to buy a new one then use the hood pin shutdown. which is neg, all you have to do is change the brake wire trigger from pos to neg with a relay.

I agree. Wire a relay as follows:
86 - brake wire from car
85- ground when running
87 - ground
30 - hood input on remote start
i think u need to check ur voltage/or tach sense wire try starting it w/ out that wire hooked up cause i had the same problem ... also double check make sure ur battery is fully charged to a load test on it and make sure ur alternator is putting out at leats 14 volts at the battery while the car is running ... seems like its supposed to be a short somewhere but ur car isnt running right so prolly ur battery or alternator or the voltage/tach/sense wire
