Hi, this is my first post here, i've been reading posts for the past couple of days, and everyone seems real helpful.  Hopefully someone can help me.  I am the proud new owner of a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Sport with the 5.9L V8.  I would like to install a 2-way alarm on it with capabilities of turning on my underbody neons and roll my windows up/down.  I've never installed an alarm before, but i have done stereos, and i am in school for electronics, so i'm not totally stupid about this stuff.  My questions are, Which alarm would you recommend  for a newbie to install, which alarm is most capable of adding accessories controlled by the remote, and which is the most reliable, cost worthy, and upgradable?   Any suggestions or tips regarding my vehicle would be appreciated, too.   thanks, mike

you would need an alarm with multiple channels to be able to control stuff with the remote.... something with 4 or so should be good... if you buy something dei makes you also can buy channel expanders.... something easy to to put in would be like viper 800 something good to start off with...

go dei you got two kinds the hornet 554 t which is a two way remote start and the viper 790xv with is also a two way remote start problem though most alarms only have 4 channels which means you can make the windows go up when you arm the system through diode isolation, and down using the remote and with the fourth channel of the remote you can turn on and off your underbody neons with use of a relay.. i owuld say the 554 from hornet cause it comes with two remotes a normal remote and a two way remote paging system. and also the viper as more range but it only comes with one remote and the second remote is about 100-125 dollors more and it is the only tyoe of remote that will work for the system. now as far as your truck goes it hard cuase you have one starter wire two ignition wires and one acc wire but what is hard is that you have to do five wire relay set up for lock and unlock and also to avoid domelight delay you hav e to diode isolate door triggers. should you attempt this as you first go ahead gotta start somewhere but this is not an each job just because you want to do neons and windows as well . a lot of spare relays are needed and a window roll up and down module is needed.

how much better is the range of the viper supposed to be?  also, is there any way to get elaborate info on my truck and the window neon configuration?  Also, what do you think of compustar?

If i purchase one of these DEI 2-ways, what additional things will i need to buy to effectively secure my truck, and allow me to control the accessories.  What type of connectors should i use?, and should I spend 7 bucks on this: https://cgi.ebay.com/dll?ViewItem&category=14934&item=3000607123  ?

Notes:
*1 Keyless models use positive trigger for lock, and 5-wire for unlock. Can also find wires at the central timer module to the right side of the steering column, lock is ORANGE / green, unlock is pink/green.  *2 To avoid dome delay, use tan for the drivers door and BLACK/ lt. blue for the passenger door. Both wires are located at the central timer module to the right side of the steering column. Use both wires and diode isolate each.  *3 Must see a ground on the tan drivers door trigger wire while locking to arm the factory alarm. This only works if the vehicle does not have delayed domelight.  *4 Diesel tach wire is gray/black and diesel wait to start wire is ORANGE / black (-) 'see direct fax document #1090'. Both wires are located on the center of the firewall. There are two black plugs, the wires are in the top plug without the white insert. The tach wire can also be found at the ECM on the passenger side firewall in connector C-1, pin 8.  *5 This wire requires a high current negative, must use relay.

thanks for the replys, i appreciate the help.  However, i do have some software called DesignTech WireColors which thankfully somebody emailed to me cause i don't think i could afford the cost of the software outright (especially for a one-time use)  However, the help i'm looking for is for in depth, in layman's terms, what i should be doing to make use of all the features the alarm includes.  I imagine that the instructions included in the box with these alarms are vague and meant to lay the groundwork for a basic install on the average vehicle.  Are there any vehicle specific tips that you guys could provide me with to aid me in a successful install that won't leave me without a vehicle, being that this is my daily and only driver?  Also, Are the Viper, Clifford, and Python versions more advanced than the Hornet?  Or am i better off getting the Hornet cause it has a second remote.  thanks again, mike

what do you mean by "avoiding dome light delay"?

i've heard that the door locks on dodge rams are tough to do - 5wire system.  Any tips or info on this?  by the way i have keyless entry.
