application: pulse to steady

i found some capacitor on mouser.com but im not sure if its applicable and cheapest place to get it from.

What are you trying to do with the capacitor? That's not a size generally though of when talking about power conditioning..

While it's reliable and pretty foolproof, using the big cap method shown, a cheaper alternative is to use a transistor and a much smaller cap to do the timing. Pretty simple to do, but just needs a little more work to connect up.

This does the same thing without needing the huge cap-
If you have really slow pulses coming in, just increase the cap or resistor to lengthen the hold time.

upgrade you big 3 and your alternator first. you might not ever need a cap if you take care of the essentials first.

Yeah, the cap's not for filtering, just for timing purposes.
If you have some experience installing alarms, it's not really that bad to wire up-

For small quantities of electronics parts like that I'd look at Radio Shack.. but I've also used Digikey, Mouser, JDR Microdevices and others.. for the circuit you could also work up something based on a 555 timer circuit, but the RC network you're thinking about should work fine.

thanks everyone for the replies, but i went ahead and ordered some from mouser.com. radioshack charges an arm forthose type of stuff. i.e. spdt relay= 7bucks.
