2005 Pathfinder, second accessory wire

Is powering up the 2nd accessory necessary on these for r/s?

i power is up, good remote starts are a 2nd acc wire for that, beter be safe then sorry.

2nd accs. is NOT need for remote start...but like you, I would hook it up anyways...It will give power to the rear defroster...(if you want to trigger it)

I can't stand my radio being on during remote start, so I don't trigger the second-accessory wire unless I have to.

I figure that A. The sound of the radio will bug neighbors early in the morning and B. If a cassette or CD was playing, the customer is going to lose his place on the cassette..........he's going to miss out on the songs that were playing while the remote start was running.

On the other hand, as others have said, it's sometimes better safe than sorry, especially if it's a car you're not sure about, or the customer is about to move far away, etcetera.

I didn't power up accessory on a Focus, and I had done many Foci that way before.....but on this car, his check engine light was coming on. It took me two trips back to this guy's house, and one trip to a mechanic, and a little bit of research, to get all of that figured out........maybe I should have just powered it up in the first place, I don't know.

I think Foci is the right term for the plural, isn't it?

But anyway, yeah, I've done quite a few of them myself. Some through my work, where it's possible another installer would fix the problem and forget to tell me.......but also a couple as side jobs, where it's virtually a guarantee I'd get to hear about the problem..........and it was only this one car.

The customer's father, a mechanic, pulled codes, and found a code in the car's computer about the low-fuel circuit.

I made a post about this on carsound.com, and another installer had had the EXACT same problem on a different Ford, same trouble code and all, because he didn't power up the accessory. I think it was a Taurus.

In any event.........when the mechanic cleared the code, and the customer discontinued using the remote start, the light stayed off.........when he began using the remote start again, the light came back.........when I hooked up accessory and cleared the code again, the light stayed off.......so that must have been it.

Well, thanks for the focus info.    I'll probably power it up anyway like everyone else said to be on the safe side.  I'm not going to trigger the rear defroster.  Thanks for the help.
