Subject: Trunk Solenoid trigger hookup

I want to trigger my 522t trunk solenoid to open the trunk via my -250ma Compustar trunk output. How should I wire up the relay to make this work. Do I need 2 relays one to boost the signal of the compustar output and the other to open/close the ground of the solenoid? Thanks for any assistance.

off the trunk poper, theres 2 wires,
run the red wire up to the compustar and ground the ground somewhere back there next to popper
wire relay like this:
85 & 87 Fused 12v
86 200ma output wire of compustar
30- output to the popper

When you say run the red wire up to the compustar, are you suggesting just tagging 12volts at the compustar while providing a switch in series?

Sorry, I'm not following you with that post. I have the -250ma trigger wire in my trunk along with a fused 12volt red wire. I understand the how to connect the relay, as it gives out a negative output. I however dont understand how giving terminal 30 (negative output) a positive voltage will work. Can you explain.

He means the positive wire on the popper. Not all cars use red for it. Grand Marquis usually use a purple wire yellow stripe for the popper's positive wire for example. Good Luck! ------------- Never send your ducks to eagle school.

Read the section on relays. You will find your answer there. Relays output depends on what you use as an input. Either way you have your answer in this thread and if you need to understand it then it is in the relay section on the left.

I just want to ensure I don't burn out an aux channel. 85 & 87 Fused 12v

30- output to the popper then I need to give the popper ground and 12 volts, so the one popper terminal will get the output from 30 since it's a negative output and the other will get constant 12volts correct? Thank you very much.
