Hello all,

I am wanting to install the Commando Pro Start 2300 in my 98 Camry. The unit is a Remote start with Keyless Entry. I called Commando/Gnu to get a list of all the parts I would need to buy. My vehicle is as follows

4 Cyl Auto
Power Locks and Windows
No Factory Alarm just basic all around

here is the list of parts they said I needed
Pro Start 2300 (duh)
Transponder ( I informed them I do not have a factory alarm system - they say I still need it )
R30 H relay for Dome light ( why would I need this?? )
They also said my locks were already Negative pulse. ( My car does not have keyless already - would I still need to get the positive to negative Door lock relay?)

Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

The '98 Camry only has a transponder key if there's a red LED in the center of the tachometer, with the word "Security" next to it.  If you don't have this, you don't need a transponder bypass.

The domelight relay is so that you can hook up a feature called "domelight supervision" or "illuminated entry"---- it turns on the domelight for thirty seconds after you unlock the car, so you can look inside for kidnappers hiding in your back seat, and so you don't have to fumble around in the dark looking for your keys, putting on your seatbelt, etcetera.

So the basic idea is that the remote starter probably has a domelight supervision output....but you still need to use a relay to make it work.  You can buy the relay anywhere you want; you don't have to use theirs.  Or if you're not interested in this feature, just forget about it altogether-----it's optional.

Door locks:  Yes, they're a negative-pulse setup---which is the most common type, the simplest, and the easiest to hook up to.  As long as your remote starter puts out regular negative pulses for lock and unlock, which pretty much every unit does, you'll be all set.  No extra parts or special work will be required.

I don't have the security light next to the tach.
I think the guy from Commando was reading from a list or just wasn't paying attention to what I was saying

Thanks for all the help.
