I am installing an Audiovox APS997 in 2002 camry with factory keyless entry. I was reading thru the APS 997 installation manual. It looks like I can choose between the horn or siren output. Does anyone know if this selection is lock/unlock chirps only? I want to operate my factory keyless buzzer thru this horn output. The factory keyless buzzer switches on +12v, the alarm horn output is - (ground). I think I can use alarm ground horn output to get +12V for factory buzzer, but I don't know if it would sound the same. The output options are 10, 16, 30, 40 and 50 mS. Has anyone tried this? Anyone more familiar with Audiovox remote starters?

You could use the Audiovox horn output to trigger a relay, to make 12 volts, to trigger the underhood buzzer.......but only if you can find the buzzer or its wire. I tried once on a Camry.......but the sound that the buzzer makes is almost impossible to locate, in my experience.

I did once use the Audiovox horn output to trigger the factory buzzer in a RAV4. I didn't change the pulse time, and it sounded pretty much like factory.

I'll try to find the buzzer, and if I do I'll let you know. I understand that you have used Audiovox remote starters. The main reason for me to go with APS997 was because I have APS786T in my wife's car. I understand that both these models are capable for multi-vehicle. I have not installed the remote starter in the second car yet, but after I install it. How do you programs the remotes so that I only have to carry one remote to operate both vehicles independently. The 786T only have lock/unlock and remote start option. I don't use any other channel in that car for anything else. The APS997 will have lock/unlock, trunk release and remote start. I have the proamming guide showing all the procedure. What I don't know is which channel should be assigned to which button (and car). I'll wait for your answer.

As for programming the remotes:

--First you have to know how to program the remotes. That's in the instructions.

--Take note that each unit has four "slots" for remotes. So basically just keep in mind that if you keep trying over and over and screw it up, you're going to "kick out" what is already programmed, and have to do it over........no big deal, just be aware of it.

--Each of the remotes has multiple extra channels, by simply pressing two buttons at once.........side by side, one above the other, or diagonal.

--Keep in mind that just because the buttons are labeled, there is no rule that you have to program them that way.......you could reverse the lock and unlock if you desired, for example.

--My suggestion would be to try to come up with something you can remember.......maybe take the 786 remotes..... "Lock and the button below" to lock the other car....... "Unlock and the button below" to unlock the other car.....Option for remote-start, something like that.

--After you get the APS-997 installed and working, play around with it a bit.........you will see that there are already certain button combinations, like for example to see what the inside temperature is.........make sure not to use those same button combinations to control your wife's car.

--I am pretty sure the 2-way remote will control the APS-786, but obviously the 2-way functions won't work.

Once again thanks for all your help. In case if you are interested, I found the buzzer wire on a 2002 camry. I have some factory wiring diagrams and I verified the wire. Its a pin # 1 , light blue wire located in  a harness on right side of steering wheel. When I applied 12V directly to it, it didn't work. Then I checked voltage across it when buzzer was working. The voltage I got was 7.7V. I gave up the idea of using this buzzer. I can make a circuit to get 7-8 volts, but then I have to use a relay, etc. Its not even worth it. Its cheaper to use the horn output and connect to a separate buzzer. and yes you are right, the location of the buzzer is impossible to detect. I did not physically see it, but its located near the washer and passenger side headlight.
