2nd accessory needed on 2003 Silverado?

I have a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with the Duramax diesel. I have head conflicting stories on whether the second accessory (brown) wire needs to be hooked up when installing a remote start. I will be using the CrimeStopper RS-1905FM remote start with either a GM-SL or 457G data bypass.

Anyone out there know if I will need to use the accessory 2 wire? I am hoping not as the remote start I am installing has an option where one wire can either be second ignition (which I know I need) or second accessory, so it would avoid me having to wire an external relay.

Also, one other question: if you had the GM-SL and 457G, which one would you use? Any preference?

99% of the time I don't hook up the brown wire. A couple times I have had to for some odd reason. I don't think the heater controls turned ON in those couple trucks.

I have not run into any of these trucks that needed the second acc brown wire, even the diesels..

the only newer vehicle that has needed this wire that I have run into was the 06 Trailblazer, I've never had to hook it up in a pickup like yours.

Much like everyone I have not had any issue with not connecting the brown wire. On a personnal note I perfer to power everthing up on GM product. Too many unknown future issue has not been noted. When in doubt, power everthing up like you would starting the vehicle using the key !

With GMs, especially the trucks the ignition wires are critical.  The second ACC in this case is probably for the stereo and won't hurt anything not to hook up. If the HVAC is not working like it should then you will need another ACC but either way it won't hurt anything not to hook it up.

Remember, ignition circuits can and do control functions to do with the vehicle running. It can actually cause problems and perhaps damage to the transmission of GM trucks if not done properly as well.

But..an acc wire does just what it is defined to do..power up accesories and nothing more.

The 2nd acc brown is only necessary on trucks with quadrasteer.

Actually I had a customer come back with the same truck on which I didn't connect the BROWN ACC wire. Once started the truck "hesitated" while running, was somewhat weird, but once the ACC2 was connected everything ran smooth.

Any thoughts on the GM-SL vs. the 457GW? I have both coming to me and not sure which one I'll use. It looks like the GM-SL has more features.

the gm-sl is the way to go.
