I cannot figure out by reading everything here if I should be reading the resistance between the yellow and black once or reversing the leads and use the average. Also do I need to use a relay or can I just use a resister?
Sorry, 97 Cavalier passlock system

Alot easier to just get a 555L or comparible unit, if not youd have to cut the yellow R-code wire, put one end of your multimeter on the key side and the other side on the ground reference wire which should be black, youd then turn the key cylinder to crank and read what the resistance is, then put that resistor in with a relay

just the once measurement then. The dip switch device I bought says two measurements.

What "dip switch" device? I would just go with a self learning module...

The bypass unite has ten dip switches on it. I followed the directions as accurately as poss. I want to omit this device and use 1 relay if poss.

get the resistance first then wire a relay as follws

pin 86 ign

pin 85 neg alarm out or aux / bypass out

pin 87 to the resistance wire(black) with the proper value resistor inline

pin 87a ign side of yellow (closest to ign switch)

pin 30 opposite side of yellow

easier this way have funposted_image
