Does any one have any information on which OEM keyless entries would have enough range to be usefull with an add on remote start? The only one that I have confirmed so far is the 03 fullsize GM's.

Thanks..Dale

In general most OEM keyless entry systems are not built for range rather the luxury of locking/unlocking the doors without using the key. Range was not a big concern seeing that you do not wantto accidentally hit the button and unlock the doors 1/4 mile away . The best I have seen out of a OEM remote FOB is about 50 feet.

They all have limited range; as Jeff says, a long range would be undesirable.  In my experience, GM and Chrysler seem to have a little greater range than others.

Also, on many foreign models, the factory keyless doesn't work with the motor running----once the owner remote starts the car, he'd have to use the keys to get inside.  Hondas, Toyotas, and European Fords (like the Focus) work this way, for example.

that's true, what jeff and chris say's.but some times some customer's want the way the want, and you have to make it if is possible,so if the wanted remote start with the factory keyless entry, you have to work on it to make it possible.of course is a especial job.special price.

I add on remote start to OEM remotes, the ones that seem to work better are the new 2001 and up Maxima and Altima 2002 and up and also most Chrysler,Jeep and Gm the range is not as good, but remotes operate when car is running unlike Hondas or Toyotas, Fords .  Before I add it to the factory remote I always ask the customer how far away they will start the car, if only if there are happy i will connect it to the factory remote.(you don't want them coming back everyday telling you the range sucks.) If you connect it to their remote make sure you explain everything, ups and downs.
