ok, will a standard 1 amp or 3 amp diode work to diode isolate a starter wire or any other really high amperage wire, or will it cook it. If i a diode is rated at 3 amps, can you only put 3 amps across it before it cooks?

It'll cook it. Why would you need to diode isolate your starter wire???? Use relays to control flow...

Yea, wire up a relay.
Most likely, your starter unit has another starter output that is 200mA, use this.

Whenever I do second starters on nissans, I put 1 six amp diode on the cold start wire, and 2 six amp diodes on the normal start wire. It works awesome, and I would imagine it is just as reliable (although relays would still be the non-lazy way to do it).
