Hey everyone,

I am breaking my posting cherry by posting here looking for help. :)

This weekend I installed a Galaxy 5000RS-2W in my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. I've never installed an alarm before so it was quite the learning experience.

Everything is working fine except the parking lights. they are not flashing at all. I verified my truck uses a negative trigger so I set the jumper on the alarm main unit.

The notes for my truck say: "Parking lights require a negative trigger thru a 330 or 1.4K ohm resistor. There is a rest resistance on the wire, so MUST use a relay to isolate away from the switch. "

I am using a 330 ohm resistor and I believe the relay is built-in on the main unit of the alarm so I did not add one.

Anyone have any ideas why it is not working or suggestions I should try to diagnose the problem?

To isolate the alarm's parking light output from the switch, it is necessary to cut the vehicle parking light wire, then re-wire it through a relay so that when the alarm activates the parking lights it isn't connecting to the switch side of the wire at all. A built-in parking light relay on the alarm isn't useful for this purpose; you need a separate relay.

85--negative parking light output from alarm
86--fused +12v
87--ground through 330 ohm resistor
87a-switch side of vehicle parking light wire
30--output side of vehicle parking light wire

Well the relay seemed to help. Now lights are flashing... unfortunately they are the interior dash lights, not the parking lights. The wiring diagrams I found said to use the purple / YELLOW wire at the light switch. Obviously this is incorrect.

Anyone know the proper wire for parking lights on a 03 Dodge Ram 1500?

Parking lights require a negative trigger thru a 330 or 1.4K ohm resistor. You might just have the wrong resistance so test it out with a meter. The wrong resistance will could easily cause the problem you are having. If it becomes too much of a pain there is another option for you. Set the jumper for positive lights and grab it under the hood at the power center. You can grab that wire at the headlight relay there.

You might also find a POS(+) BLK / YELLOW in the drivers kick by the parking brake. This is not on all trucks.
