I would like to put a r/s in my 03 Grand Am, but I am unsure how to get around the factory anti-theft short of buying a bypass module. I have heard mention of measuring the resistance needed and duplicate it, but I have no idea how to go about it as I have never installed on a Grand Am before. Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has seen or heard of a Radiostar Generation r/s, any input about quality would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Buy a bypass module, in my experience the resistor method on passlock II is unreliable. The GMBP is a very easy piece to install, it does not require cutting any of the factory wiring.

I have not heard of the Radiostar Generation RS but with most systems, the quality of the installation is what matters most.

I installed a rs/alarm combo into my car(2003 Grand Am) and the locks, trunk, etc. all work fine, but it will not start or even turn over with the rs. I had a spare key cut thinking it would just open the doors, but it also starts the car. Now my question is, would the car normally start with just the spare key or would the Passlock 2 keep it from even turning over. I did not put in a bypass module yet. Would the bypass module I have solve the problem?

Yep, the module is gonna trick the car into thinking a key is starting it. Even without the module though, if the remote start is hooked up correctly, the car should still try to crank.

Thanks, mikvot. That is kinda what I figured, but I just wanted to try to get a second opinion. I guess I will have to recheck my start wire hookups.

I have installed the bypass module, and still the car will not even turn over. I have also rechecked all my connections and found one loose one so I fixed it. When the unit tries to rs the car, I can hear the fuel pump running, but no go on the engine. Any thoughts, anyone? Input would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using a tach wire? If so, did you program it to the unit? Make sure you have the correct brake shutdown wire. Make sure the hood pin wire is not seeing ground.

Do you have a link to the install manual?

Yes on the tach wire and yes to programming it to the unit. The brake wire I used is the lt blue one at the brake switch (shows +12V when pedal is pressed) and affirmative on the no ground for hood pin wire. This has me baffled. I don't have a link for the install manual, but the unit is a Radiostar Generation Alarm/Remote Starter combo. I took the brain and starter module back and had them replaced with a new set and will try installing them with existing wiring in place. And thanks again for your thoughts, mikvot.

here's another thought, make sure both ignition wires are hooked up.

Ignition
Second Ignition

I have both ignition wires hooked to the correct wires, as you thought to do, +12V to red, Accessory to orange, Start to yellow, and it still won't even turn over. I am thoroughly stumped. New brain installed and everything.
