I'm in the middle of a 01 Escape.. Installing a crimestopper EZ55DP with an XK04 bypass.. Two things..

1. I cannot find the tach wire. It has the V6 engine. I'm not an engine person. I cannot find the "coils" or the "coil pack". Can anyone help me out here??

2. Locks.. I did the pink/white wire at the GEM. I have Lock through a 1K ohm resistor.. Both the lock and unlock button on my remote are locking the doors..

Now one of my docs says that if the car has the factory alarm to just use the arm/disarm wires for the locks.. I didn't do that so could that be my problem?

Thanks for any help.

I would have to see the motor to help you with the tach, so i'm no help on that. On the doorlocks, i would use the WHITE/ violet and blue/green wires for lock and unlock.(set to double pulse unlock).

On the firewall under the hood...... that's the "wall" beneath the windshield wipers.....in the middle is a big plug with a gray plastic cover. I've used pink/white in there as tach.

I've also seen many of these done on voltage sense, without comebacks.

For the doorlocks. Turn the key back and forth in the driver's door exterior lock cylinder.

If the key will operate the electric doorlocks, you can use the arm/disarm wires to lock/unlock the doors, regardless of factory alarm or not.

Note that the key must be turned to the unlock position twice before the electric motors will unlock....therefore, you need to set your unit for double-pulse unlock as well.

Also, chasing down that GEM is a timewaster. You can find locks, arm/disarm, brake, and parking lights, all in the harness running to the rear of the car, along the doorsill.

When doing the tach signal you can always use fuel injector wires.  Its usually a two pin plug.  For example, on a an 2005 acura TL you would take off the engine cover and it will show these type of plugs across.  They would have  one wire thats the same and the other would be a different color.  The different color would be the signal.  To check for the signal you can use your multimeter and change it to AC and tap that wire.  You would see the wire with a pulse on the meter.  If you shut down the vehicle then the pulse is gone and or if you rev the vehicle it will pulse higher.  In regards to the locks, make sure you use relays for the lock and unlock wires.  One of them is like you mentioned the 1k ohm resistor and the other is not.  you must use relays though, do not connect direct.  The factory alarm disarm is blue/lt green at the GEM.  I dont know if it will unlock the doors.  Direct Techs doesnt mention anything about this other then that the factory arm wire will also lock doors.  You can also disconect the lock wire with the 1k ohm and just have the unlock wire connected.  If it unlocks then you can connect your lock wire to the factory arm wire and leave the unlock wire on the pink/white wire.
