I wanted to upgrade my alarm system,  I currently I have a Viper 791 pager alarm, I wanted to get the newer version from DEI.  To install the new alarm do I just have to plug/unplug the old harnees to the new module, or would I have to rewire the whole thing.

just swap out brains and antennas and your done.  the last thing you would do is reprogram the tach wire.

just get the whole alarm.   The brain and remote cost the most,  i must have not been clear,  the remote would also be replaced.  Also the 5900 is advertised at 1 mile range while the other one you mention is 1/4 mile.  Even a DEI employee(was there for training and saw the product before it went on sale) said he didnt like the new color remote.  Go with the 5900, range is amazing, why? because I have it and can vouch for the distance and reliability.

the 5900 works better in buildings and the range is FAR superior.

Definitely stay away from the 7900 OLED color TX. Hunka Junk!
The 5900 is a bullet proof die-hard system - good choice.

False out of range, short battery life (days), can't tell if battery is charging or not, no response when unlocking or disarming. DEI will probably resolve these issues though once they are known. This remote wasn't engineered by DEI so it probably worked great in Taiwan posted_image I feel sorry for DEI.
