well.. was wondering what the second button does and how if any settings from remote...

The second button on the 8440 remote is for the AUX channel. This channel outputs a (-) pulse for a trunk release or anything that requires a (-) pulse to operate. It is the Yeelow/Green wire on the main harness of the 8040 CPU.

ok.. does the LED need a resistor on it to work?

No it does not. It's all controlled by the CPU.
