With all the different 'factory' remotes out there for these GMs, how would i know which remote is right for my vehicle? Would any factory or OEM keyless entry remote from a 97-99 Astro work for my van?
Yes, a remote from a 97-99 Astro, Suburban, or Tahoe will work- but must be programmed.....use this procedure- Oh and be sure to put a new battery in your remote transmitter if it doesn't already have one...
Transmitter Programming

- | The doors will lock and unlock within 2 seconds. |
- | The liftgate window release (E54) will be activated within 2 seconds. |
- Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on one of the transmitters until the locks cycle. This will take approximately 10 seconds. The receiver will respond as follows:
- | The doors will lock and unlock within 2 seconds. |
- | The liftgate window release (E54) will be activated within 2 seconds. |
- | Do not wait more then 60 seconds between transmitters or the receiver will exit the programming mode. |
- Repeat step 2 for each transmitter, four transmitter can be programed to this vehicle.

If you do not have a oem remote for the vehicle you might just have pwr locks w/o keyless entry. Should be blk/wht pin 8 @ DLC. If it is empty you just have pwr w/o keyless. Keyless module is in pass. kick panel if equiped.
