I get the basic idea behing the module bypassing the transponder from the factory key. But if the bypass is not hooked up directly to the RS system, how does it know to let the vehicle start when the RS system triggers the start. It seems like it would bypass the system all together not just when the RS system is trying to start. Just trying to get a little more info before I attempt this install on my '06 Nissan Xterra. thanks vdub

Bypassing isn't bypassing what you think it is. It means to bypass having key in the ignition for vehicle to start and the bypass module does connect to RS unit so it turns on at the correct time. It makes the vehicle computer think that a key is in the ignition and is being used to turn car on. Meanwhile this keeps the vehicle security integrity intact. If you have never installed on vehicles with anti theft, you may not want to do this one by yourself. If you screw up something then it wont be much of a money saver, especially if you'll need to pay someone to correct it.

The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.

The typical key-in-the-box bypass module goes like this:
One wire is connected to constant power.
The other wire is connected to the remote starter. The remote starter makes a ground on this wire, but only when it is activated.
When the remote starter is off, the bypass box is also off.

so the immobilizer i have says that it should be hooked to "ground when running" which wire would that be.

also, where is the bcm located. from everything i have read it is to the right of the steering column. but from looking under the dash i have not seen it. I see something that looks like it could be the bcm but it only has 30 pins not 40 and i did not see the colored wires i was looking for. do i have to remove some of the plastic to get to it or should it be right there. thanks

Hello, I am installing an ultrastart 1155 addon system in an '06 nissan xterra. I have everything installed and when I press the lock button on my factory keyfob the system does nothing. On the other hand when I physically press the lock button on the inside ofthe car the remote start is activated. I set the pulses needed to 1 so that I could make sure that the RS system recieved the correct amount of pulses in the 2sec timeframe it needs. Is there a separate connection for the remote control of the locks versus the manual pushing of the locks in the car. Any ideas? thanks vdub

Yes, there is a different wire you need.
The wiring sheet for that car should list a "lock motor" wire. That's the wire that goes from the BCM to the electric lock motor that's in the driver's door.
You can find that wire at the BCM itself next to the ignition harness, or in the driver's kick panel, in the harness that goes into the driver's door.
This wire will rest at ground, and switch to positive when you lock the doors, regarldless of whether you lock them by remote, or by the switch on the door.
If your Ultra starter can be reprogrammed to accept a positive trigger input, that's great. If not, you'd need to use a relay to change the car's positive signal, to the negative signal that the remote starter wants.
