2002 ford f150 dome light / remote start

I installed a RS1704TW2 (remote start only, no alarm) in an 02 Ford F150..

The customer said when he does a remote start, and then opens the door the dome light doesn't come on, so at night, it's pitch black..

He said when he opens the door when not doing a remote start the dome light comes on fine..

Any ideas?

Does your unit have a domelight supervision output? If you have NOT done security, you should be able to use the dome output on the drivers door pin  wire (without diodes)  to trigger the dome on when unlocking under remote start.

I guess this would be the way to go?

I've never hooked any vehicles I've done up this way.. Is it just that no customers have ever called me on it and there dome light isn't lighting up or is this vehicle specific?

That would be the way to go, just hooking it up to the door trigger would not require a relay but will illuminate the door ajar indicator in the dash until it goes out.

You could wire it through a relay and hit the domelight wire itself in the passenger pillar and it would keep the door ajar indicator from coming on.

Actually most vehicles I have come across behave the same way, it is a function of the vehicle to turn on the interior light when unlocking but when the vehicle's ignition is on it does not illuminate.

Ahhh.. So this is probably happening on all my installs it's just the customer doesn't realize it or notice..

So if I hook it up to the domelight wire via relay it would be wired as such?

85 - Constant 12V
86 - Brown Wire from RS (- for 30 seconds)
30 - Constant 12V
87 - Domelight wire (12V)

So will the domelight stay on for a full 30 seconds when the unlock button is pressed? Even if they put the key in and turn to the on position and start driving?

SIDE NOTE:
I could NOT get the apillars off. The removed the two caps in the handle to see that the nuts holding them on were recessed into plastic. None of my sockets would grab the nut.. This gave me a problem running the antenna so I guess I will also have a problem tapping the domelight wire.

The relay wiring would be correct for a domelight that switches positive to turn on (most do).

I use a simple tool that allows my drill to operate sockets, like this one, never had any trouble at all getting those A-Pillars out of that year F150. Maybe pickup a set like this one and just use the socket adapters with your drill.

I have that tool for my drill.. I was just using a screwdriver type that sockets attach to. Do you know the size of the Ford Apillars? I swear I couldn't get the dang thing off. Only one I've ever seen where the nuts were recessed in the plastic.

I am not familiar with that particular remote start, but with all of the DEI product I install the dome supervision turns off when it sees ignition provided by the key. So, if it is running on remote start, press unlock, dome light turns on until the brake is pressed or 30 seconds expires. If not remote started press unlock, dome light stays on for 30 seconds or until key is turned to on position (ignition circuit is energized).

As a side note.. I just checked my truck. I didn't hook up that wire and my domelight comes on when I open the door (after a remote start) and then goes off when I put the key in..
