Had a remote start and Keyless entry (Alta 600)(I believe it is a CodeAlarm 520a) installed by local Alta Mere, everything works, but on occasion the factory alarm will take over, and if you unlock the doors with the new remote the factory alarm will sound. The Alta was installed with one of the factory keys which I thought prevented this problem, as well as made the auto start possible. I have no alarm install experience so go slow if you have an answer or possible solution, I would also like to talk intelligently to the installer - any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

ask if they hooked up the Factory DIsarm wire and the Factory disarm wire from the unit they had just installed. Usually, installers will cut corners and never bother to hook these wiresup because in some cases, they are a PITA to find.

I will ask - I found this info and it seems to address the issue that Im having, is this the right direction?

Factory security
Most factory installed security systems can be disarmed by turning the key in the driver's door to the unlock position. In these cases there will be a wire coming from the door that can be pulsed to shut the security down and allow the vehicle to start without tripping the factory alarm system, this wire can usually be located in the kick panel. If the security system does not disarm with the key, check the vehicle's owner's manual or e-mail us on the vehicle you are working on.
Passive anti-theft systems
Some vehicle's are equipped anti-theft systems that are based on security against tampering with the ignition switch and hot wiring of the vehicle such as GM's Passkey V.A.T.S, Passkey 3, Passlock I, Passlock II or Ford P.A.T.S similar systems found on other makes and models. See the "Factory Anti-theft Bypass Reference Guide" list for details on all these transponder based systems.
Always make all your connections before installing you main power fuse and be sure to program and test all functions properly before closing up you installation.
In closing Use tie wraps or screws to properly secure the starter module and keep the wiring away from any moving parts such as parking brakes or steering column shafts. Mount any switches in a good accessible location where they won't get kicked or hit accidentally.
Take the time to properly explain all functions and features to the customer before they leave the premises. Most comebacks are the result of misunderstandings about how a product works or performs. Doing this will save time and money.

Thanks again,
Steve

There are 2 ways to disarm your factory alarm one is to unlock before lock after start provided that they used the factory arm and disarm wires the second is to power the key sense wire at the key cylinder both will work. The easiest is to use the key sense power it with a relay triggered off ignition.

not all cars have a key sense though. Most units will have the feature to lock-after-start, so when u remote start, it unlocks the doors, starts then relocks. Or the unit can be programmed to PULSE to disarm the security then start. Then rearm when u turn start off.

BLACK/ white found in the driver's kick panel. Meter this wire while turning the key in the driver door key cylinder.

If the installer didn't hook up the OEM alarm disarm wire to this wire, then the aftermarket system will not disarm the OEM alarm when unlocking or when remote starting. In your first post, you mentioned that " The Alta was installed with one of the factory keys " , do you mean that you are using a OEM key FOB to remote start the vehicle ????

The car has key sense it's RED / black I believe at the ignition harness it will avoid having to unlock before lock after start. The BLACK/ white will do unlock as well so you must lock after start.

Sorry for the confusion, when I said it required a factory key, I ment the key was installed with the system (key sense) so that the factory alarm knew that there was a coded key in the area, so that it would remote start. So now I think I understand what everyone is saying tell me if this is right.

the extra key is used to bypass ur immobilizer during remote start.

With the key sense the installer should be able to tap in to the RED / Black wire and and this will unlock the car - start it - re-lock, until I come out and unlock it with the remote?

key sense should disram your factory alarm then start without any problems such as having the car wail on you.
