Hi people....

Im sat ere in sunny England!! I spotted this sit 3 days ago and with very limited experience wit car electrics managed to wire a push button start for my 1994 Renault Clio (dont know if u have them?)

Im chuffed wit my work but would like to add it to my alarm remote. I purchased a remote reciever specific to my alarm which is currently powering my tailgate release from the alarm remote.

Here is the question... Could i possibly use the same idea of the push button starter (jus a single relay) and use the remote reciever to throw the ground rather than the push button switch?? I am aware that i would have to use a constant +12v rather than my ignition?!

This feature would only be used for starting and warming my car on very cold mornings, and before i drove the car i would turn off remote start and then start it properly?! would this be possible or not?? Also my car is manual transmition but would still like the car to cut out if the brake pedal is pressed?? sorry for all the questions.... any help would be brillaint thanx people!!

You require a remote starter unit to accomplish this. Otherwise you will have to have your key in the ignition turned over to the ON position all the time if all you want to do is have a (-) signal to engage a relay to have the car turn over with your push button start. most RS units go for about $ 100 - $ 150 and they will integrate into your alarm without problems as long as you have an impact disable wire on the alarm .

Ok thanks for that...but im gonna be really thick now...jus some things i need explaining.

How come i need the key in the ignition if i dont actually want to drive the car from the remote start?? If i wanted to drive the car i would stop the engine and restart in the traditional way?

My theory was that it should be the same as using a button (which i already have installed but where the positive 12 volt is taken from the ignition for the button to work, i would instead run a constant live, and use the remote reciever to throw the ground to make the circuit?

Sorry but as i said i have very limited experience and need things explaining, thanx very much.

there's a big diagram on the special apps relay page about home RS..

https://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp

you don't actually need the key in if you wire it right, but if you're thinking it's simply a matter of wiring up the push-start to the alarm - it's not.  if i'm not mistaken your push-start currently requires your key to be in the ignition in the run position for it to work.  this is why you can't jsut wire the remote start to a relay.  however, it is possble it use the output from your alarm to also send a signal to the car which is the equivalent of having the key in and in the run position (basically just providing power to the ignition wire).

w/ a remote start you're gonna need to add a bunch've saftey features.  i'm assuming your car's auto?  if it's got manual transmission you better add A LOT of saftey overrides to prevent from starting in gear.  typical safety features include e-brake sensor (does not allow RS unless e-brake is engaged) and an easily accesible override (typically the brake pedal - used to shut off the RS in an emergency).  also it's not necessary to purchase a unit, it's just easier.  it saves you the hassle of wiring.  depending how skilled you are with wiring you could save a lot of money doing this yourself.  you could also mess thing up fairly thoroughly as well though.. posted_image   you'll need a lot of relays but it shouldn't end up costing more than about $20 or so...

anyways checkout the speciall apps page and if you understand what's going on there and got more questions feel free to ask..  i'm probably gonna do my own RS later.  i've got a manual transmission though so i'm gonna need to do a lot of safety stuff (mercury switches etc...)  plus my alarm output channels are all used up so i'm gonna hafta upgrade first.  best of luck!
