Hi all, first post and limited knowledge so please be gentle.
I've added xenon headlights with dry to my freelander 2. I successfully rewired the lights to work with my harness and after ordering 3 drl controllers that didnt work i built my own with 3 relays.
The issue i have is the drl needs to dim or turn off whilst indicating on that side. Currently the turn signal and drl alternate on off with each other. It would seem this diagram solves my issue https://www.the12volt.com/relays/relaydiagram22.html i understand the capacitor keeps the coil energised whilst indicator is between blinks. What i dont get from way its wired in is the purpose of the resistor? It seems redundant or am i being thick? Also i dont get the diode across the coils the way its drawn in it will be preventing voltage flowing from + to ground? Is this an error? Finnaly what diode would you use in this application? Ive used p600a elsewhere in the lights, but only because i had them already, im guessing they would be total overkill for bridging a relay coil.

The purpose of the diode is quench the voltage spike when the relay disengages. A 1n4001 through 1n4007 will be sufficient. A 1n4001 is a 1 amp 50 volt device.
