I'm trying to wire some auxiliary backup lights that will be toggled from a switch up on the dash. I want these lights to only be active when my headlights / parking lights are on. These are LED lights and are capable of being run from the power on my existing backup light circuit - I know since they only draw 5A and I've been running them like that for over a year

Is it a problem if I wire an SPST relay like so

30 - power source from existing backup lights
85 - ground
86 - power coming from the switch at the dash
87 - the lights

What I'm concerned about is whether there's a problem with the power source being intermittent since it only comes on when the normal backup lights are on

Great, thanks. That will enable me to do it with less long runs of wire
