ok i just tried one diode on my parkinglights... it got real hot quick.. obviously the 1amp diode won't be good for this application.... i placed many diodes in my alarm setup and worried which one is good enough for the 1amp ones and i need to know which amp to use for like IGN or parkinglights which puts a greater load.

ok.. i have some diodes hooked up to the power windows, sunroof and some relays.... can someone tell me which one of these are not appropriate because i DO NOT want them burning up.....

so which amp do i need for IGN and parking lights?

....i use Rectifier Diodes rated at 6 Amps - 50PIV (Radio Shack 276-1661) for my installs....a bit big but haven't had a problem with them burning up...posted_image

Why not use a relay for the ignition ? What are you trying to install that you need to block the ignition current from coming back ? Just curious  posted_image

Can't hurt by going bigger...if you've got the room, stick it in. It doesn't take much lighting to get 1 amp, 12 watts at 12 volts will do it. Remember, diodes in parallel give you more capacity, not series. Double them up if you need to.

so 6amp is enough for headlights and ign or starter wire? is there like a 15 amp diode?

sorry..for the late post.....

well, i dont know if there is a 15 amp diode out there..but damn..if there is one, it would be about an inch thick probably. posted_image well, like i said before, i used a 6 amp for my headlights and that kind of stuff so you'll probably be OK...but you might be able to do like hotrod said and double them up...i dont know if this actually will give you more like 12amps but thats up to you.  like i said, you can try it and probably have it work.
