Subject: blinking LED's on when truck is off?
Date Posted: December 02, 2004 at 11:05 AM

I have one of those Radio Shack blinking LED's.  I want it to come on when the truck is OFF and to shut off when the ignition is ON.  I know this is a simple procedure, but I just can't wrap my brain around it?

A little help please!

Thanks

Connect terminal 85 of an SPDT relay to ground, terminal 86 to ignition, terminal 30 to LED(s) positive, terminal 87a to constant 12V positive. When the ignition is on, the normally closed terminals of the relay will open, turning off the LED(s). Depending on the LED(s) you have, you may need to add resisitors to the LED(s).

I would do almost the same thing as the12volt except I would switch the LED positive to #87a terminal and connect #30 to the supply (constant 12v). This way you could use #87 as a feeder for a circuit that you only want when the ignition is on- ie a steady green LED to let the signficant other that the car is already on or to feed amps or something similiar

even easier  way and still as safe   .  the positve   side  L.E.D.   to constant , and the  Neg side of L.E.D.  to true Ignition.   true ingition  rests at ground

This is a blinking LED out of the box. So it will blink with constant 12v. AFAIK, ignition has no connection at ground, so the option from 12v to ignition would be invalid.

yes all cars   true ignition rests at ground   and for your car is black wire w/ yellow stripe , in the main ignition harness   constant is  a  white wire  in the same loom,

again        neg -     side  of   l.e.d   to (  ignition  )    and  the pos + to    (Constant )

it  WILL work ! !
