Hello, I've been using this site for several months, and I did a Search on this, but was not satisfied with the results.

I have a Hot Rod that I want to use a Single Light bulb(Dual Filament) to handle Brakes / Parking Lights and Turn signals.

The Parking lights are easy, I'll Use the Low Wattage Filament, and for the Brakes& Turns,  I Want to Share the High Wattage Filament.

In My search a found several Diagrams showing two or three relays to do this, except that the Tail lights would be blinking off-Phase from the front tunr signal.

I found a diagram on this site for converting a Pulsed signal to Steady Output

So I thought instead of putting a constant 12v put the actual turn signal , and what do you get ??? A Signals in sync with the front?

Based on the diagram above, I did My own, Please Tell me if you guys think this would work... Oh and suggestions on Cap size and Resistor size would be appreciated.

Note:  the wire Marked Brake/ Turn Signal it would be either or, so in this case it would be Only Brakes.

What you are using for a brake light switch and turn signal switch will determine how you do this.. so.. what are you using for a brake light and turn signal switch?

Turn Signal Switch is from the Streering Colum  to Flasher to Tail Light, The Brake switch is a Preassure Switch. The Switches work.

If I connect the brake wire to the lamp the lamp come on whet I Apply the Brake, If I connect the turn signal to the lamp the lamp blinks when the stalk on the steering colum is moved. I already have the two wires per side ready and working. Just that the steering colum I'm using does not make provisions for using one light bulb for both tuns and brake.

I don't think the relay diagram you have constructed will work.

The brake light wire doesn't go to the rear to the light bulbs, it goes to the steering column.  When you apply the brakes, the brake light signal goes out of the column thru the left and right rear turn signal wires to light the bright side of the bulbs.  The brake signal gets interrupted when you have the turn signal on, for instance, if you press the turn signal lever for a left turn, the brake light signal is interrupted  for the left side and the power from the turn signal flasher is given priority and the left rear turn signal flashes, while the brake signal still goes thru the right side to indicate a brake condition on the right rear.

On a dual filament bulb socket, you will usually only have two wires, the parking light feed goes to the low wattage filament, while the brake/turn feed goes to the high wattage filament.  The socket itself needs to be grounded.  If the socket inserts into a metal opening, then thats how it usually is grounded, or if it inserts into a non-metal opening, then usually it has a round ring attached to the socket with a wire that requires being connected to a ground source.

If you are using a aftermarket steering column or a GM style column, then the brake light feed from the brake light switch should connect to a WHITE wire at the column.  The left rear turn signal should be yellow, left front Light Blue, right rear turn signal is green, right front is Dark Blue.

Don,

Thats my problem I'm Not Using a colum that has Turn signal Priority... In my set up I end up with two wires in the rear for each side one for a Turn lamp, one for a brake light, I m trying to replicate the steering colum function by using one relay for each side in the rear.

Ok,  then you need a double relay setup like this for each side.  So you will need 4 relays and 4 diodes.

That's what I was wondering.. in your case, I'd just go get a trailer turn signal light converter box.. it does everything you need, they are available just about everywhere, and its relatively cheap.

Hottup32, Thanks for the drawing...

I found that drawing Before, But what I don't Like is that the rear lights would blink off-Phase from the ones in the front when the brakes are applied... thats why I was trying to find another solution.

What type of steering column are you using?  How many wires are coming out of the steering column and what colors are they?  Does the column have seperate turn signal wires for the front and the rear, or just one wire for both front and rear turn signals?

Alright, I have a similar problem and want to know if this is what I am looking for.

'94 Isusu NPR with European tail lights. Red stop and red running lights with amber turn signals.

Now here is the problem, I went to a converter box for my trailer lights which are LED and then I switched the truck lights to LED and the converter box will not work properly. I need the trailer to have both stop and turn signals, but when the brakes are applied one that is showing turn still needs to blink while the other is showing brakes.

Any help is good help.........

Im am dealing with a similar issue. I found this thread on a google search. (Already a memeber though...) I have an 88 Suzuki Samurai that had aftermarket tail lights done when I got it. Trailer type lights, 4" round tail/brake lamps, and 2" turn signals. Since I had no reverse lights (and no room left in the tailgate!) I decided to replace the turn signals with clear lamps and run reverse lights to them and use a _TRAILER TAIL LAMP CONVERTER_ It worked great, turn signals flashed with the brake light. Then I turned on the headlights... with the headlights on it wont flash. whats more is the hazards will flash with the headlamps on but only in the front. Everything is wired correctly. Im thinking the flasher module has the incorrect load. Before I did this rewire the turn signals flashed fast, as the front turn signals were smaller than stock(even with the side markers wired into them). I considered the possiblity of a "heavy duty" flasher module. any input is appreciated.
