I would like to find a switched 12v power wire to power up my gps from the overhead dome light. I'm nervous about it being a lan bus and I just thought I would check before I end up doing any damage. Thanks.

Actually if someone could just point me to an accessory wire near the steering column that would work fine also. I've seen on other postings that the pink or the brown wire can be used as an accessory. I'm just want to make sure that I don't screw something up. Thanks.

What do you mean by power up your gps from the overhead dome light?

Not that I'm familiar with your vehicle's wiring, but domes usually have a (constant) +12V supply and are switched by grounding door switches etc.
Of course modern controllers (BCMs etc) can +12V switch the dome instead, even then, why the dome?

Do you mean you want an opening door or other dome trigger to turn on the GPS?
(You don't want the GPS to turn off when the dome is off?)

I was just wanting to use a wire that was switched up in the dome light area. I was just wanting to run a short piece of cord down from that to the gps. It's nice to have the gps turn on and off with the key.

There won't be any switched 12V+ in the domelight area.

As they should be - ie, domes are PWM (dimmed/controlled).

Main reason - PWM is cheaper than a rheostat (variable resistor) etc or other analog control.
Secondary reason - as we move to LEDs, PWM is the only suitable dimming method - especially if LEDs and tungsten etc bulbs are mixed.
