I installed an aftermarket stereo and when I did the fuse for the tail and dash lights blew out. What did I do wrong?

You grounded the radio to the illumination wire. Disconnect it, insulate the car end and ground the radio to the chassis of the car.

Next time go to your local stereo shop and purchase the wiring harness for your car.
