Hi guys. This is my first post here. I am fairly experienced in mobile electronics so I know, or can figure out what I'm doing.

What I was wondering if there is any way to make a flip down lcd touchscreen monitor receive a gps signal and the gps able to be controlled by the touch screen.

I have a f150 single cab, so there is no extra room for a gps, and I already have an audio system and I dont want to switch out the head unit. So I thought why not buy a monitor that I can flip down when I need a map, and flip it up when I dont need it.

What is our GPS source? The factory Ford? Portable? Or possible laptop?

If your source is:

Factory - Probably not unless you got a hold of unit without the control screen.

Portable - If this is the case, you may want to look for an overhead monitor housing and make a custom mount inside of the housing to accept your unit and possibly add the power cord.

PC based - Many 7" VGA touch screens area available, but probably not in the roof mount format. You can use the overhead mount housing and you will have to run the wires for VGA, power, and usb for the "touch" functions back to the PC source. At the PC end you will need GPS software, hardware, and maps.

I think the 2nd solution would be your best bet.
