I was wondering how the installation goes on one of these. As far as were do the wires get hidden under the headliner?? in so wont you see the bump in it because the RCA's are so thick? ALso how do you go about mounting it on the ceiling?
thanks

Ease of installation depends on the type vehicle, but most are not too bad. Most newer vehicles have a one-piece headliner and the wiring can be hid easily. I usually run the wires to the front and come down one of the windshield pillars to get to the dash area. You will probably remove your interior light and mount the new screen in its place using existing mounting holes. If not, you can probably find a strength-member to mount to.

Use a mounting plate made of metal for the backside of the monitor. predrill the screw holes and slide the plate between the roof liner and the monitor. Line up the screws  with the ones on the plate and fasten into place. Like Robdude20 says, run the wires along side the pillar where the windshield is and run to the source unit. Make sure that you run the RCA's down one side and the power wires down the other side so you do not get interference from the power wires on the RCA's.

When you insert the metal piece inbetween the roof liner and the roof, you will use the flipdown screen to sandwich the roof liner and hold the metal plate in place. Use shallow screws that will hold down the monitor to the plate. If you have access to a tap & die set, you can thread holes that you put into the metal plate and use plain screws instead of sheet metal ones for the installation.

After doing a lot of these installs i've found an easy and fast (not neccasarily the best) way to mount the screen is to cut a 1/4 inch piece of pressboard, or 3/8 if you've got play. cut it 6 -8 " larger than the monitor mount.  remove the side trim above the door. and run the cables down the side pillar. the reason for this is it is much easier to reach into the headliner from the side of the car with the door open than it is to try to go towards the windshield. slide your board into the headliner and line up the monitor. zip the screws in(make sure your wires are not under the screws important: zip it in with 4 short ( as not to go through the roof) all purpose screws. put the side trim back on run your wires up front, or to you audio/video locations and you're done. trying to find those holes on the metal back plates is a joke if you've ever tried it. let's see someone 1.position the back plate 2.hold the monitor (while positioning it) 3. put screws in it, all at the same time. it ain't happening unless you remove the whole liner or have an extra set of arms. unfortunately the monitor will not be rock solid but is fine for 90% of the population. most of the time the cross member in the roof is not where you want it to be.

I have found that as far as physical mounting, the following is quick and rock solid. I agree, those metal mounting plates is a joke, liquid nail a piece of 3/8 or 1/2 inch medite to the roof; hold it in place with a brace until it dries. I like to do this right after running cables, so it has time to dry.

It is a very solid mount, and will suck the monitor flush with the headliner.
