i've been working on this 01' f-350 super duty for about three weeks now and been searching all over for information on hooking up a factory backup camera... there was no 01 factory camera, he actually has an 08' tailgate with the 08' factory camera built into the handle. now, there are 5 wires coming from the camera so one can only assume the following:
one is 12+
one is GND-
one is a remote input from the backup lights
and the 2 left over are the actual video wires pos and neg

considering that the first 3 wires i mentioned are wrapped together in shielding, i can assume these 3 are the +- and remote but for some reason i cant seem to get the dang thing to work

does anyone have a wiring diagram or any insight for me?
i appreciate your help :)

hi,

the wiring for the factory camera has ignition..WHITE/ brown, ground..black, video +..WHITE/ green, video -..BROWN / violet, and a shield.  there is no reverse lead at the camera.  it is on with the vehicle's ignition. the monitor/rear view mirror has the reverse lead input connection.

i would say that those wires that are shielded are the signal wires. and why would it have 12v AND a remote? its a camera, it only needs to be on while the truck is in reverse. is one of the wires in the shielded bundle an UNshielded braided wire? did you test the wires with a meter to see what they really do?
