Topic: Wire Identification Onstar 16 Pin 10 Wire

Subject: Wire Identification Onstar 16 Pin 10 Wire
Date Posted: October 09, 2009 at 6:41 AM

I recently purchased a rearview mirror equipped with OnStar, Auto-dim, map lights, microphone/speaker functions, 4 buttons below mirror. Power, white dot?, onstar, and medical button?   from what ebay ad said it fits 00-05 impala. I am retro-fitting it into an 88 honda Crx Si. I know there are topics dealing with Gentex mirrors, but all are closed topics. All i want, at the moment is the Auto-dim to function. I have figured out some of the wire colors, some are still a mystery.

pin out is as follows: listed from viewing back of plug right to left is this correct?

1. Light grey - function unknown. +/- ?

2. bare - assuming mic from other topics.

3,4,5 blank

6. Blue/white stripe - i think its the switched power supply. Map lights turn on when connected.

7. Black - ground

8. blank

9. solid light green - function unknown. +/ - ?

10. another light grey wire. pin 2 is connected to this one to form one wire. Mic? if so which is neg/pos

11. Dark green with white stripe - function unknown. +/-?

12 Light Green with black stripe - positive- illuminates the 4 function buttons.

13. Solid brown wire - function unknown. +/-?

14. Yellow with black stripe - illuminates green light next to medical button. Function?

15. Dark brown with white stripe - function unknown. +/- ?

16. blank.

if this list is backwards i apologize if so   pin 8 is pin 1 and pin 16 is pin 9

there are numbers on back of mirror

DCA- 883459596    also above that are these Capital "i", circle with a capital "e" and the number 11   after the circle there is this number 015607

any info would be much appreciated. I hope that this is not a duplicate topic but once again all topics dealing with rear view mirrors are "locked" so i cannot reply to these

Hmmm. I got nothing.

For the auto-dimming to work, you only need three wires connected.
Lt Green = Back up lights (+)
Brown = Accessory (+)
Black = Ground

The rest of the wires are:
Dk Green / White = OnStar keypad signal
Lt Green / Black = OnStar supply voltage
Yellow / Black = OnStar green LED signal
Brown / White = OnStar red LED signal
Bare = Cellular microphone drain wire
Gray (pin 10) = Cellular microphone

Gray (pin 6 w/ GPS or 7 w/o GPS) = Ground when doors are open (Courtesy light function)
Dk Blue / White = Battery

PM me your email & I'll send you a copy of the circuit on PDF.

[QUOTE=91stt] For the auto-dimming to work, you only need three wires connected.

Lt Green = Back up lights (+)
Brown = Accessory (+)
Black = Ground

The rest of the wires are:
Dk Green / White = OnStar keypad signal - connect to (+) wire to make active
Lt Green / Black = OnStar supply voltage - connect to (+) wire to make active
Yellow / Black = OnStar green LED signal - connect (+) wire to make active
Brown / White = OnStar red LED signal - connect to (+) wire to make active

What can i do with the Onstar Keys and the Cell Mic functions ?
i.e. can i DIY a bluetooth speaker device of some type or form ?

Bare = Cellular microphone drain wire
Gray (pin 10) = Cellular microphone.
why are these to wires bundled together and join to form one lead?

Gray (pin 6 w/ GPS or 7 w/o GPS) = Ground when doors are open (Courtesy light function)
    mine is in pin 1, if right to left.      Pin 8,   if left to right.    It is a light grey solid wire though same function?

So to take this a step further. If i am understanding this correctly To make Auto-dim(tint) operate do this

Run blu/white to a (+) source along with: solid lt grn, and Solid brown wires correct.
Now,   can I just combine all the (+) wires into one wire? Then run to a 12v source. If so what gauge would the main (+) wire need to be? I hope i am not over-thinking this. just want to do it right the first time. I was told to connect the BLUE/WHITE wire to the Domelight.
    To make courtesy lights function.   Run the solid Lt. grey wire along with the black ground to grounding point. Correct?   all others aside from (PIN 2&10) mic drain are (+) correct.

Any more in-depth info is helpful much appreciated thanks!

I can't tell from the diagram but I think it should go (-)

yes

I believe both are (-) signals
Should be easily checked with a DMM for bias

not sure

probably prewired mic

than you probably have a 2005 mirror, gray is on pin 1 for that year. I sent you the 2005 diagram

Correct for Brown wire but no to other two
Dk Blue/White is only constant 12V for courtesy light
Lt Green goes to (+) back up light wire, looks like it may be used to cancel auto-dimming in reverse.

No

The auto-dimming circuit should use very little power. My suggestion is to use nothing smaller than what is on the pigtail you have attached to mirror.

No, GM have negative trigger dome/courtesy lights. Blue/White goes to constant 12V and Gray goes to can be connected to your dome light (-) side (Hondas use neg trip too).

No, see above
