I just installed an eclipse avn726e in my 2007 honda odyssey and I can't get the steering wheel controls to work. I have a PAC swi-ecl2 installed, I've triple checked all of my connections and re-read the vehicle specific instructions from their website multiple times but I can't figure it out. the swi powers on properly and I am able to set the version but when I go to program the steering wheel buttons I get no response (like it's not getting signal from the steering wheel buttons) so I'm questioning whether the pin number and wire color PAC lists is correct. Does anyone know how to identify the steering wheel control wire in the factory harness or maybe even how to test using a dmm (so I can figure it out on my own).
Also, I used an american international dash kit and the fit and finish is terrible, does anyone have experience with the metra kit for this vehicle? I can't live with the poor quality look of this one unless absolutely necessary.
thanks in advance
I think I've found two of the wires I need, they show a change in resistance between them when different SW buttons are pressed, but I believe there is a third wire from the factory harness that needs to be grounded. (based on info I found on a f-150 and different toyotas) But I can't find any info for hondas
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
Forgot to mention that I found out that the pac swi is not required on a newer ford f-150 or most toyotas, just need to find the correct wires to "hard wire it" (2 go to the head unit and one from the factory harness goes to ground) so I 'm 99 percent certain that I don't need the interface for the controls to work. Especially considering that eclipse has software for the headunits to ensure compatibility. The avn 726e does not have the steering wheel plug like older models have it only has two wires ( brown + BROWN / blk)
contacted eclipse again and I was able to figure it out...even though they gave me the wrong wire color. If anyone is interested you connect the white wire ( I think it was pin 3) to the BROWN / black on the head unit. Connect the brown wire on vehicle harness to ground, the brown wire on the head unit does not connect to anything. The steering controls work 100% without the pac interface.
After talking with 6 eclipse authorized install shops being told definitively that I need to buy an $80 interface ($140 installed) because thats the ONLY way it will work I've decided to swear off install shops all together. Someone who does this for a living should be able to figure this out if I can. Eclipse has been making head uints with direct wire steering remote function for quite a while so its not a "didn't know cause its a new feature" thing, I think it shows the level of integrity and care that you have to deal with now days.
