I have been thinking about putting in a LCD and stand alone dvd player and I am wondering why i would need a DVD player meant for car mobile electronics... i have been told that it is soooo much better to get a Car DVD player than to buy an adapter and use mine from home, why are these mobile DVD players sooo much more expensive than a home unit? its seems to me that i could buy a cheap DVD player at best buy, maybe 50 bucks and a power converter 20-25 and i could put it all together for under 100.... the chepest mobile units i have seen are the crappy brands and even they are over 150... it just makes sense that if i wanted to spend that much money i would rather just spend it on a PS2 to put in their.. maybe you can shed some light on this matter

The simplest reason is skip protection. Solder connections are another. Devices designed for mobile use generally are made to be much more durable.

The size is also a factor ( yes size matters ). All the components are smaller and built into a smaller chassis so it costs more to do it this way. Also, some DVD players on the market have internal amplifiers which hme systems do not.
